Back to school program planned
Councilman Michael Mack and the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services will be hosting a Ward 6 Back to School event at 6 p.m. today at Parson Elementary School, 4100 Thom Blvd.
The city and other community organizations will provide information to assist parents and students during the upcoming school year. Details for after school programs, youth sports leagues, arts and music classes, Safekey and track break programs will also be available.
A limited amount of box lunches will be given away at the event. Activities for the evening will also include games, prizes and a jump house. Free hot dogs and sodas will be available.

Hospital to host cardiac nutrition class
A cardiac nutrition class will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Oct. 2 at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way.
Dietitians will discuss the basic principles of a heart healthy diet.

Program scheduled for kids of fans
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering a program for children of University of Nevada, Las Vegas football fans from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.
Participation is open to ages 6-12 for $25.
The program, Little Redshirts, provides entertainment and recreation for children while their parents attend a UNLV home game or watch the game on television. Call 450-5885.
