Boulder City briefs for August 28, 2002

Lighted golf course due in May

Boulder City's first lighted par-3 golf course should open to the public by May.

It's something resident Skogie Lennon told the Boulder City Council on Tuesday he's been waiting for since 1970, "a golf course with lights on it."

Lennon said he will "lead the charge" of heat-intolerant, short-winded seniors to the 31-acre course.

The City Council approved the course for construction within the 27-hole, 450-acre Boulder Creek Golf Course, currently under construction and due to open in January.

Triad Golf will build the par-3 course for roughly $1 million of its own money. It will lease the land from the city for $66,000 annually.

TV station proposals studied

Three independent experts will judge the merits of proposals to run BC-TV, the only community access station in Southern Nevada, the Boulder City Council said Tuesday.

The finance director, Bob Kenney, and the parks and recreation director, Roger Hall, will select the panelists.

When the budget for the station hit $130,000 earlier this year, city officials began asking whether it was time to reassess the station and determine whether a private group could be run the station more professionally for less money.

Three groups responded to the city's request for proposals, AMD Productions, the Boulder City Senior Center and The Feature Filmmakers Workshops of Las Vegas.

The panelists will rank the proposals. Then the council will weigh those rankings against the current city-financed programming.
