Money collected to feed horses

Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 | 9:32 a.m.

Friends of Red Rock Canyon, a volunteer group protecting the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, has collected nearly $1,000 in individual donations to help feed the canyon's starving wild horses, matching a $1,000 donation from a nonprofit organization.

The money was collected over the past month in a donation box set up by the Friends at the Red Rock Canyon Visitors Center.

The funds will help feed and take care of 39 wild horses rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management earlier this summer in an emergency effort to save the animals. They are being held at the BLM's Oliver Ranch until range and water conditions improve.

Anyone interested in contributing may contact Friends of Red Rock at 255-8743. Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to the National Wild Horse Association, P.O. Box 12207, Las Vegas, NV, 89112.
