Department store planned near Summerlin

Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 | 11:06 a.m.

Hayward, Calif.-based Mervyn's plans to open a fourth Las Vegas-area department store at the Grand Canyon shopping center near Summerlin in March.

Mervyn's, which will be one of two anchors along with Target at the shopping center at West Flamingo Road and Grand Canyon Drive, is being developed by Triple Five Nevada Development and plans to hire 200 workers for the 80,000 square-foot department store.

"There's been a lot a great new growth in the Summerlin area, which we felt supported the opening of another store," said Leanne Furman, spokeswoman for Mervyn's. "This store will have wider aisle ways, a larger fine jewelry area and shoe department as well as the largest women's department of all the Mervyn's stores in Nevada."
