Long-vacant downtown Henderson casino sold

Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 | 11:22 a.m.

The owner of a long-vacant casino in downtown Henderson has sold it to a real estate company with plans to sell or lease the property.

Richard Thurmond, owner of the Pot O' Gold casino on Market Street, has sold the property to Burbain Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

Burbain is controlled by real estate investor Robert Urbain, whose partner, Nicholas Tunis, is a former lease holder at the Pot O' Gold.

Burbain has had an option to buy the property since last year, said Tunis, who also owns a string of local bars.

The company will either sell or lease the aging casino to a licensed casino operator, he said.

The Pot O' Gold, which featured two restaurants, a bingo hall, blackjack and a host of video poker machines, has been vacant for at least a year and a half.
