Letter: Atkinson Gates is threat to those seeking adult fun
Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 | 8:52 a.m.
Yvonne Atkinson Gates is a typical and frightening example of what happens when a power-hungry bureaucrat, out to make a name for herself, finds a group to scapegoat for problems that don't exist.
She chose to show videos of several dancers who crossed the line. Well, I can produce just as many tapes of politicians taking bribes. Does this mean all politicians are on the take? No. Those tapes were probably culled from hundreds and hundreds of properly conducted lap dances, but Gates would never admit this.
A generation ago, she would most likely have been one of those hysterical people who would have protested Elvis' corrupting music and lewd dance moves. People come here from all over the world to escape from controlling and repressed politicians just like her.
Atkinson Gates is very bad for those who come to Las Vegas to enjoy themselves as adults, and an even greater threat to Las Vegans who enjoy our simple liberties. After all, who knows when this lady will try to take away something you enjoy because she decides "it's just wrong."
