Passenger counts at McCarran International Airport were down for the 11th straight month in July with 6 percent fewer people coming and going through the Las Vegas airport than a year ago.
McCarran officials said 3.05 million people used the airport, down from 3.24 million for the same month a year ago. The downturn left the seven-month total for 2002 at 20.4 million, down 6.5 percent from the 21.8 million who used the airport in the same period a year ago.
For July only one airline -- Las Vegas-based National -- flew more passengers than it did a year ago among the top five traffic generators. Two companies, Delta and America West, had double-digit decreases from the previous year.
Southwest Airlines, McCarran's busiest carrier, flew 933,226 passengers, down 7.7 percent from the previous July. America West was down 10.1 percent to 501,182, No. 3 National was up 0.3 percent to 225,413, United was down 7.8 percent to 223,243 and Delta was off 10.5 percent to 206,522.
