Red Rock offers flicks, bats and walks

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. Reservations are required. To make reservations or for more information on the upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Free Flicks at the Rock: They include the movie "Black Beauty" Saturday. Seating is limited so call for show times and RSVP.

Strolling in the Canyon: A short one-mile easy walk Sunday.

An Evening Walk With Bats: A slide program at the visitor center Sunday on bats and a short hike to the guzzler at White Rock to look and listen for bats.

Rise & Shine: A six-mile strenuous hike Monday on the White Rock Loop.

Chabad's annual telethon set Sunday

Dennis Prager will host Chabad's 22nd annual "L'Chaim -- To Life!" telethon Sunday on KFBT Channel 33.

Celebrity appearances will be made by Elliott Gould, Jon Voight, Fyvush Finkel, James Caan, Regis Philbin, Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Boxleitner and Tony Danza, with performances by David "Dudu" Fisher, Rebbe Soul Band, Andy Statman, Daniel Rodriguez, Robbie Britt, Alef Band, Elan and many more.

Get a clean car from Babes in Boots

Local firefighters with the assistance of dancers, models and cocktail waitresses, will be working the inaugural "Babes in Boots" car wash from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday at two Terrible Herbst locations: 7500 W. Cheyenne Ave., and 9345 S. Eastern Ave.

The event supports the Firefighter's Burn Foundation of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit organization that helps victims of fire tragedies.

Arts camp explores issues facing youths

The West Las Vegas Arts Center will present the Performing & Visual Arts Camp 2002 viewing party at 6 p.m. Friday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

The Final PVAC 2002 production entitled "Then There Was Light," explores the many different social, global and personal issues facing young people and their determination and commitment to develop positively from within.

The summer camp for youth, ages 10-15, incorporates the arts in the development of character-building life skills. Admission is free and open to the community. Call 646-5838.

Library website offers free tutorial service

Students may now visit the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District website (www.lvccld.org) to access a Live Homework Help program, a free online tutoring service for students in grades 4-12.

Children can receive up to 20 minutes of free online help in math, science, social studies and English from certified, curriculum experts.

The free service is accessible from any Internet-based computer station throughout the Library District's 23 branches or from the home or school with a current library card.

Access is available from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Students can click on "Got Homework?" and once the grade level and the subject have been entered, the student is instantly connected to a live tutor.

More than 850 boys and girls

will be spinning cartwheels during Desert Gymcats' Cartwheel-A-Thon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the new training center, 950 S. Cimarron Road. Call 798-3547.
