Savvy wine buys: ‘96 Lanzerac Cabernet Sauvignon
Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 | 8:31 a.m.
This is a mature, ready-to-drink cabernet from a celebrated Cape producer, from a vintage that was generally iffy in most parts of the world. Similar to many of its ilk, mainly lesser counterparts, it has a fruity nose that distinctly recalls ripe plums, and a good deal of wood on the palate.
The wine was produced from newly planted, virus-free clones of cabernet sauvignon, and the tannins are quite soft. This wine will stand up to the gamiest meats, and is a wonderful match for cheese as well.
Available at Lee's Discount Liquors, for $24.99.
