Vegas workers decertify union

Technical employees at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas voted narrowly Friday to decertify Service Employees International Union Local 1107 in a National Labor Relations Board-supervised vote.

Fifty-five employees voted to drop the union, while 50 voted against decertification, the NLRB said. Voters included pulmonary and respiratory therapists, flight medics, radiologic and cardiovascular technicians, therapy assistants and ultrasound and nuclear medicine technicians.

Tom Beatty, Local 1107's executive director, said the union may fight decertification.

"The conduct of Valley Hospital was coercive and violated the NLRB Act. Valley Hospital allowed individuals to circulate petitions to get support for decertification and engaged in surveillance of union supporters and harassed them," he said.

Valley officials declined comment on the union's allegations.
