Las Vegas Area Fishing Report: Anglers catching stripers, catfish at Lake Mead

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Nevada Division of Wildlife creel census clerks report that anglers fishing with anchovies around Ann Margaret Cove at Lake Mead continue to land both stripers and catfish.

Top-water action is still good throughout the entire lower basin. Anglers using gigs and spoons are catching 1-3 pound stripers. Boaters report success for stripers in the five to six pound range at a depth of 70 feet.

Anglers using anchovies as bait continue to report very good success for stripers in the 33 Hole area. The fish averaged 12-14 inches.

Anglers are having success catching 11-18 inch stripers using cut bait, such as anchovies or squid. During daylight hours, stripers are being found in water depths of 40 feet or more. The fish move into shallow during the evening and nighttime hours.

At Willow Beach, there are reports of large striper schools congregating around the marina after last week's trout plants. Trout fishing is slow with a few fish caught. NDOW's weekly trout plants continue on Fridays.

Rainbow trout fishing is fair, but a few anglers were successful landing 13-14 inch trout.
