State Treasurer
Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 | 8:49 a.m.
Republican State Treasurer Brian Krolicki will sail through the primaries with no competitors and will face Democrat Ken Santor and Independent American Mark Andrews in the general election in November.
Krolicki served as chief deputy state treasurer for the seven years prior to his election in 1999. He is currently president-elect for the National Association of State Treasurers, president of the Western State Treasurers Association and president of the Nevada Government Finance Offices Association.
Krolicki helped launch the Millennium Scholarship Program and administrates the prepaid college tuition and college savings programs for the state. As treasurer, he oversees the investment management, cash management, debt management and administration of the state Board of Finance.
Former State Treasurer Santor lost re-election to Krolicki's predecessor in 1990 and to Krolicki in the 1999 Republican primary. An electrical and general contractor for 35 years, Santor is running again for the position onthe Democratic ticket.
"I brought money back to Nevada and kept it here and will do the same (again)," said Santor, referencing his experience with state banks, brokers and bond advisers while he was treasurer. The Korean War veteran said that he was the first state official to use a cell phone to conduct state business during commutes and laid the foundation for how the current office operates.
Andrews did not return a candidate questionnaire.
