State Board of Education District 6

Three candidates are running for the District 6 board seat -- Patrick J. Boylan, Philip A. Mumm and Albert Ochoa.

Boylan, 50, holds a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has been teaching at the college level for 12 years and served four years on the Winchester Town Board. If elected, Boylan said he would focus on improving accountability.

Ochoa, 24, is a claims adjuster with a degree in finance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Ochoa said he wants to improve the state's vocational programs, along with classroom technology. Attracting and retaining quality teachers must also be a priority, Ochoa said.

Mumm did not respond to repeated requests for candidate information.
