Operator posts record quarter

BILOXI, Miss. -- Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. saw its revenue and profit climb in its first quarter, which the company said was the best first quarter in company history.

The Isle on Wednesday said it earned 40 cents a share in the quarter ended July 28, compared to 20 cents in the year-ago period.

The company reported revenue of $276 million, up from $262 million in the first quarter last year.

Isle's net income was $12.1 million, more than double the $5.8 million from the year-ago period.

The company owns 15 casinos in Mississippi, Louisiana, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri and Nevada. However, it has agreed to sell its Lady Luck hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas.

In trading Wednesday on the Nasdaq Stock Market, Isle shares were up 39 cents, or 2 percent, to close at $19.63.
