Las Vegas Constable

Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 | 9:27 a.m.

Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas each have stiff competition in their respective races for constable.

The constable offices serve court papers and enforce court notices and evictions.

Las Vegas

In the Las Vegas constable race, incumbent Democrat Robert "Bobby G" Gronauer has no competition in the primary as three Republicans -- Barry R. Keller, Tom Savage and Robert Douglas "Doug" Tharp -- battle over who will challenge him in the general election.

Gronauer served as a Metropolitan Police officer for more than 30 years before being elected Las Vegas constable. The Vietnam veteran is known, he said, for cleaning up Gerson Park in Las Vegas, one of the most crime-ridden areas in the city. The national Constable Association honored Gronauer as "Constable for the Year 2002" at a convention in Las Vegas.

Keller served as deputy constable and constable in Salt Lake City before he moved to Las Vegas. He is currently state commander for the Army Volunteer Reserves with more than 20 years of military experience.

Savage is a retired chief of U.S. Federal Police, having worked as a criminal investigator through most of his career. He also worked with the FBI in hostage negotiations and as a Army intelligence and security officer, holding several law enforcement association offices.

Tharp did not respond to requests for information.
