Henderson Constable

Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 | 9:28 a.m.

Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas each have stiff competition in their respective races for constable.

The constable offices serve court papers and enforce court notices and evictions.

Henderson

In the Henderson constable race, Democrats John J. Cahill and Frank "Full Time" Mahoney compete in the primary to challenge incumbent Republican Earl T. Mitchell. Independent American Nicholas Alexander Hansen is also vying for the job.

Cahill, a retired Juvenile Parole and Probation officer, has spent more than 30 years working with the District Court through the Spring Mountain Youth Camp, the Juvenile Parole and Probation Board, Child Protective Services and Child Haven.

Mahoney's nickname refers to his pledge to increase the number of deputies available in the Henderson constable's office to serve citizens "full time," he said. Mahoney is a Vietnam veteran and a retired Westchester County, N.Y., police officer.

The incumbent Henderson constable is seeking his third term in office. Mitchell worked in the Henderson Police Department for more than 16 years prior to his election to constable and has its endorsement. He is a past member of the board for both the Henderson Salvation Army and the Henderson Boys and Girls Club.

Hansen did not respond to requests for information.
