District Court Department 5

Eight seats are contested in District Court election, with several candidates competing for the open seats created by two new departments.

Valoria J. Vega, Ron D. Parraguirre, Joseph Bonaventure, Lee Gates, Jennifer Togliatti, Michael Douglas, Michelle Leavitt, Mark Ralph Denton, Sally Loehrer, John S. McGroarty, Michael A. Cherry, Nancy M. Saitta and Allan R. Earl are all running unopposed for re-election.

Department 5

In Department 5, former TV reporter and civil and criminal defense attorney Jackie Glass is challenging incumbent Judge Jeffrey Sobel.

In his second term, Sobel has practiced law in Las Vegas since 1969. He previously served as president of the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association and twice on the State Bar's board of governors. He said he plans to continue to have short trials and to negotiate reasonable settlements.

Glass, who has received numerous endorsements from police associations, also wants to reduce delays in court. She has practiced law for 17 years.
