Clark County School Board District G

Voters will grade candidates for three of the seven Clark County School Board seats, with each incumbent facing at least one opponent.
The Clark County School District is sixth-largest in the nation with more than 250,000 students expected when classes resume Aug. 26.
Voters in 1998 approved a $3.5 billion capital improvement plan for the district to build 88 schools and repair dozens of others. The district's annual operating budget tops $1.2 billion.
Sheila Moulton, current board president, faces three challengers for the District G seat -- Tuston Lee Brown, Julie "Gina" Greisen and Van Franklin Woertz. District G includes portions of the northeast, east and southeast regions of the school district.
Moulton, 52, is seeking her second term. She is a homemaker and former substitute teacher.
Moulton said her goals for the coming year are to reduce the school district's reliance on rental properties by consolidating offices, and increase resources for students who are non-English speakers.
Brown, a technician for Cox Communications, is making his first bid for public office. A lifelong resident of Las Vegas, Brown said his job has taught him to be prepared for crisis situations, and helped him acquire "the experience and mindset to stay focused on any project or problem until it is resolved." Brown, 30, said he wants to see "getter grades through more capable children, not lower standards."
Greisen, currently University of Nevada, Las Vegas student, is also a trustee with Teamsters Local 14. Greisen, 34, said she will focus on fair and equitable labor contracts for teachers and support staff. She would also encourage more parental involvement in school activities.
Woertz, 36, is a 10-year resident of Southern Nevada. A water treatment specialist, Woertz said he advocates greater fiscal accountability by the school board, and stricter screening processes for new teachers.
