Assembly District 37
Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 | 8:09 a.m.
Four Republicans and three Democrats are vying for the newly created District 37 seat, representing a growing sector of northwest Las Vegas.
GOP hopefuls are Earlene Forsythe, Francis Allen, Gary Horrocks and Alan Lefebvre. Democratic candidates are Teresa "Terrie" Price, Marcus Conklin and Lloyd Hargis.
Forsythe, 53, a nurse practitioner who served in the Army and National Guard as a major and has organized health fairs promoting breast and prostate exams, says she just enjoys helping people.
A lifelong Nevadan, she is past president of Nevadans for Health Care Freedom. A medical issues lobbyist, she and husband James Forsythe operate two area cancer clinics.
Forsythe is addressing health care issues including the means to encourage preventative health care practices. She seeks not only affordable health care for the population but also freedoms for patients to choose physicians and treatments.
Her opponents, Allen, Horrocks and Lefebvre, did not respond to requests for information.
Price, 46, a dealer at Caesars Palace for 22 years, has worked with area health organizations on anti-tobacco campaigns and has lobbied for the passage of health-related bills before the Legislature.
A native Las Vegan, Price is an advocate for affordable health care, pay hikes for teachers and the continued fight to stop nuclear waste from being stored at Yucca Mountain.
Conklin, 32, a business manager, is running on a platform that calls for keeping costs for quality health care low, better education, economic vitality and improved child welfare.
He is a founding board member and treasurer of the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and he helped establish the national Project Safe Place in Las Vegas.
Hargis did not reply to a campaign questionnaire. Attempts to reach him were not successful.
