Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 | 8:28 a.m.
Although there is no primary for this new district, two political veterans will face off in November for the seat.
Republican Joe Hardy, a Boulder City Councilman and former Assemblywoman Gene Segerblom, a Democrat, will be on the general election ballot.
Hardy, 53, is a family physician who serves on the board of directors for the Clark County Health District. He is vice president of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition and is mayor pro tem in Boulder City.
Hardy's platform will focus on tort reform, accountability in education, balancing "needs vs. wants( in taxation proposals and mitigating the Nevada Test Site. He supports Question 2, the "Protection of Marriage( initiative.
Segerblom, 84, is a freelance writer and retired teacher who served four terms in the Legislature from 1993 to 2000 and is a former Boulder City Councilwoman.
Segerblom is also founder and vice president of Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum.
Her platform includes more funding for education, back to basics schooling, lower costs of prescription drugs for seniors, a patient's bill of rights, tourism promotion and preservation of historic sites.
