Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 | 8:07 a.m.
Incumbent Jerry Claborn faces three challengers in the Democratic primary.
Claborn, 63, is an operating engineer who has served in the Legislature for two sessions.
Chris Colasuono, 26, is a University of Nevada, Las Vegas student and owner of a Cold Stone Creamery. He is a founding member of UNLV's Young Democrats.
Colasuono's campaign platform is to re-evaluate the state's funding and budget and improve education.
Mike Hayes, 49, is a contracts manager in the health care industry and a former management analyst for Las Vegas.
His platform focuses on health care issues, including services for children with Type 1 diabetes and mental health services. He supports alternative schooling, vouchers and re-evaluating the Millennium Scholarship Program. Hayes also supports stabilizing the state's budget and tax system.
Bradley Smith, 37, owns a public relations company. His platform includes helping voters participate in the democratic process. He proposes an interactive website and magazine for all District 19 residents detailing expenses and government programs.
Republican Duane Threm and Independent American Warren Stephens will be on the November ballot. Neither responded to requests for information.
