The Democratic primary features Mark Clarke, Mel Kalagian and Mike Slater.

Kalagian, who is making his first run for office, has volunteered for a number of campaigns in the past 20 years and was a project coordinator for Sen. Richard Bryan and advocate for Circle of Friends for Veterans, a nonprofit veterans group.

He is focusing on stronger and more qualified educators for children, affordable prescription drugs for seniors, management of growth in Southern Nevada to preserve resources.

Slater, 32, is executive director of the Nevada Interfaith Council for Worker Justice Clarke did not respond to requests for information. The Republican primary pits Chad Christensen, Rudolph "Rudy" Durso and Mark Warden against each other.

Durso, 77, is a retired clothing retailer and is currently a senior citizen advocate. He is running on a platform to reduce property taxes, improve education, make growth pay for growth, increase law enforcement and end utility rate increases.

Warden, 39, is a real estate agent pledging a campaign to reduce government, lower taxes and abolish programs. He is opposed to a state income tax, favors school choice and tort reform in the medical malpractice crisis.

Christensen, a financial adviser and partner in World Financial Group, backs small-business tax incentives, choice in education, tort reform and Question 2, the marriage initiative.
