Valley Hospital workers in decertification election

Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 | 11:04 a.m.

One hundred and twenty-five technical employees of Valley Hospital are voting on whether to decertify the Service Employees International Union Local 1107 in a National Labor Relations Board-supervised vote starting Thursday.

The voting members include lead pulmonary and respiratory therapists, flight medics, radiologic and cardiovascular technicians, occupational therapy assistants, ultrasound and nuclear medicine technicians.

"There are no clear-cut reasons or decisions behind our technical employees' request for decertification," said Mike Tymczyn, Valley Health System's marketing director. "The Valley Health administration has nothing to do with the impetus of the vote."

Union officials could not be reached for comment on reasons behind the request for decertification.
