Letter: Red Rock plan must be stopped
Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 | 9:06 a.m.
It has come to my attention that the Red Rock Conservation Area is in danger. Developer John Laing Homes of England has acquired land within this environmentally sensitive area and unfortunately their intentions are to build a town (the size of Boulder City) on top of Blue Diamond Hill, adjacent to Red Rock.
This town will include high-density homes, a golf course, schools and commercial areas, etc. This proposal needs to be stopped! The impact of this preposterous exploitation will forever alter the majestic beauty of Red Rock by increasing the traffic, smog, light and dust pollution, not to mention the financial burden that would be laid upon us taxpayers for infrastructure costs.
In conclusion, being a native of Las Vegas, it saddens me to know that should this developmental plan pass, there will be no escape from the congestion of the Las Vegas Valley. Southern Nevadans and the countless tourists who visit Red Rock annually will be greatly affected in a negative way by this flagrant leapfrog development.
Let's stop out-of-state/country developers from milking Southern Nevada at the cost of the taxpayers and to the detriment of our natural resources.
