Letter: Death penalty ends the threat
Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 | 9:06 a.m.
Opponents of the death penalty, like Father Dave Casaleggio, always seem to be sympathetic to the murderers while the victims get little mention. Imagine the fear and dread that some victims go through knowing that there time has come.
The killers on the other hand are perfectly aware that if they choose to murder, that the state may execute them in turn. Life in prison without parole is not the answer.
How many remember Robert Stroud, the infamous "Birdman of Alcatraz"? Stroud, while serving out his sentence, murdered a guard and a trustee and violently attacked another guard, leaving him permanently disabled.
If one of these psychopaths is kept in prison, who knows what damage they could cause. Common sense dictates that capital punishment will end that threat.
