Red Rock offers something for all
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge, reservations are required. To make reservations or for more information on the upcoming programs, call 363-1922:
Tortoise Talks: Short on-going talks from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday. Learn some interesting facts about the desert tortoise.
Birding at Corn Creek: A birding field trip to the National Wildlife Refuge Friday, to view an active spring and lots birds.
Junior Ranger Patrol: A program offered 10 a.m. Saturday to help guide you into becoming a Junior Ranger.
Stanley Springs: A three-mile moderate hike Sunday on what might be Mount Charleston's loveliest trail.
An Evening Walk with Bats: A slide program given by Ranger Brian Sunday at the visitor center, followed by a short easy hike to the guzzler at White Rock to look and listen for bats.
Coyote Kids: On-oing interactive learning station and craft opportunities from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday for kids of all ages.
Rise & Shine: The program involves a four-mile moderate hike on the Keystone Thrust Trail Monday.
School district police to honor officers
Clark County School District Police will hold their seventh annual awards ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday in Las Vegas High School's Theater, 6500 E. Sahara Ave.
The ceremony is to honor the men and women of the department for their outstanding services, and the department will recognize those individuals who have helped in the success of the department.

"Elvis Presley Day"
will be celebrated from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at Elvis-A-Rama Museum, 3401 Industrial Road. Festivities include giveaways, an Elvis impersonator contest at 6 p.m., followed by a candlelight vigil at 10 p.m. Call 309-7200.
