51s whip Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Joe Thurston collected three of Las Vegas' 13 hits as the 51s routed Edmonton 8-3 in a Pacific Coast League game Monday night.

Thurston finished with a single, double and triple, scored two runs and drove in two more for the 51s, who built an 8-1 lead after five innings.

Phil Hiatt and Luke Allen had two hits each for 72-51 Las Vegas, which has a commanding 12 1/2-game lead on Tucson in the PCL's South Division. Ricky Bell hit his 12th homer of the season in support of winning pitcher Lindsay Gulin (4-1).

Gulin worked six innings, allowing all three Trappers runs. Alfredo Gonzales pitched the last three innings for Las Vegas.

The 51s and Calgary Cannons will begin a four-game series tonight at 6:05 in Calgary. Victor Alvarez (9-5, 4.75) will start for the 51s against the Cannons' Kevin Olsen (2-4, 3.07).
