SUN STAFF REPORTS

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Matt LeCroy singled to score Lew Ford with the winning run in the ninth inning Sunday as the Edmonton Trappers beat the Las Vegas 51s 8-7 in a Pacific Coast League game.

LeCroy's one-out hit came against Phil Devey, the third Las Vegas pitcher, and pinned the loss on Guillermo Mota (1-2).

After allowing a five-run sixth inning to fall behind 7-5, the 51s had tied it with single runs in the eighth and ninth.

The Trappers got solo homers by Mike Restovich, Mike Ryan, Javier Valentin and Todd Sears, climbing to 70-50 and passing the 51s (71-51) for the PCL's best winning percentage.

Jeff Reboulet homered for the 51s, and leadoff man Joe Thurston had three hits.

The teams meet today at 6:05 p.m. in the third game of the four-game series, with the 51s' Lindsay Gulin (3-1, 4.63 ERA) facing Edmonton's Matt Carnes (3-0, 5.97).
