SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Ryan Freberg singled home the winning run in the eighth inning, lifting Arizona to a 4-3 victory over the Peccole Little League All-Stars and eliminating the Nevada representative from further competition at the Little League West Regional Sunday.
Arizona advances to meet Northern California in Tuesday's ESPN2-televised West Region championship game.
It appeared the Las Vegas team was headed for the TV game until Nick Carillo hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, tying the score at 3 and forcing extra innings.
Carillo also was the winning pitcher. He pitched all eight innings, striking out 13 while allowing five hits.
Peccole's Taylor Cole also pitched well, striking out 10 while allowing five hits in seven innings before yielding to Paul Sewald.
Cole singled in the first inning, advanced on a single by Perry Martin and came around to score on passed balls as Peccole drew first blood. The Las Vegas team added two runs for a 3-0 in the third with singles by Cole and Nick Bryant serving as the key blows.
Arizona scratched back with two runs in the bottom of the third. Neither team scored again until Carillo homered in the sixth.
