Killer loses high court appeal

Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 | 9:46 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Richard Hinger, serving four consecutive life terms with the possibility of parole for the murder of two men in Las Vegas, has lost his second appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court.

Hinger claimed in his petition that his attorney was ineffective at the trial in which he was convicted of killing Scott Rehn and Jimmy Sorenson in 1994. Hinger claimed self-defense at the trial.

Marnie Peot was also convicted and sentenced to four consecutive life terms with the possibility of parole.

The court said Hinger failed to submit "strong and convincing proof" that his trial attorney was ineffective.
