Economic indicators on rise

The Southern Nevada Index of Leading Indicators continued to climb in May, as nine out of 10 categories showed improvements over the previous month.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Center for Business and Economic Research said double-digit increases in residential building permits issued, residential building valuation and commercial building valuation paced the index, which was up 0.12 percent over April's figures.

The only category that showed a decrease in the index was convention attendance, which was down 13.8 percent in May to 411,444 people.
