Letter: We are the U.S.A. — not America

Friday, Aug. 9, 2002 | 9:12 a.m.

I agree with Ron Kinum's July 30 letter, "We're not really Americans, we're United Statesians": We are citizens of the United States of America or, for short, citizens of the U.S.A.

Schools should teach children that the country they live in is named the United States of America. There are other United States around the world and to differentiate you have to add America. We are not Americans, as Kinum stated.

So let's start educating the newspapers and broadcasters that we live in the United States of America, or U.S.A. for short.

But don't change "America the Beautiful" or "God Bless America" -- we as U.S.A. citizens know they mean the U.S.A.
