Letter: Consider sale of water district

Rather than have the Las Vegas Valley Water District purchase Nevada Power, why not sell the water district to one of the national water utility companies, such as American Water Works?

We would receive more than enough cash to pay off the outstanding bonds. That would release the taxes now used to service these bonds. This includes the 0.025 percent sales tax, which could be applied to the RTC transportation proposal. (Or heaven forbid actually reduce the very regressive sales tax.)

The assets of the water department would then be added to the tax rolls, increasing property tax income. Of course, there would also be a franchise tax providing additional revenue. Just an idea!
