Not all Red Rock hikes are difficult

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge, but reservations are required. To make reservations or for more information, call 363-1922. Some upcoming programs:

Reptile Watch: Follow Ranger Jim Friday as he hunts for the reptiles of Red Rock.

Strolling in the Canyon: A one-mile short easy hike Sunday with Vicki.

Rise and Shine: Learn about the basic American Indian food source found in Red Rock during the two-mile moderate hike Monday.

Moenkopi Morning: Join Janis on the two-mile easy hike Wednesday.

Groups to learn about media information

The Boy Scouts will host a public relations program, "The Art and Style of Pitching Stories to the Media," from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at 7220 S. Paradise Road.

The program is designed to help businesses, organizations and community groups with their efforts to reach the public with newsworthy stories and information.

The panel of media professionals includes Bonnie Bartlett, community affairs and promotion director for Univision; Gwen Castaldi, a private communications specialist; Becky Maxedon, editor for View newspapers; Maria Silva, news anchor and producer for Univision; and Sandra Thompson, associate editor for the Las Vegas Sun.

The Lied Library

at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has won an award for its design from the Council of Educational Facilities Planners International at its Southwest Regional Conference in Albuquerque, N.M. The library was designed by Welles/Pugsley Architects of Las Vegas and Leo A. Daly Architects of Omaha, Neb. It was built by Tibesar Construction Co.
