Letter: Las Vegas is about more than gyrating women
Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 | 8:53 a.m.
I wish I had been at the Clark County Commission meeting on lap-dancing rules to see the 95 percent of the over 1 million people who apparently desire for Las Vegas to become one big nudist colony. Yes, I exaggerate a bit, but this is "Sin City" isn't it?
That appears to be the way our illustrious mayor is determined to have the rest of the world see us. I'm sure no one around the world is interested that Las Vegas has, or at one time had, the most churches per capita in America. Heaven forbid that we should pull people out of the casinos or strip clubs to see the beauty of the Red Rock mountains, Boulder Dam, the wonderful Lied Museum, etc.
No, we need to keep these and many more features of our town a secret. With this being "Sin City," we surely want to entertain Dad while the wife and children go to the circus.
I'll fess up: I've only been here in Las Vegas for 5 1/2 years, not that long. But it's been long enough to know there is so much more to this town, to attract business, than heating up someone's sexual appetite.
While I realize we live in a town with an adult theme, I don't believe anyone looking for those pleasures needs promotion from our mayor. I thought you represented all the people, Mayor Goodman, and I'll wager there are more of your voters who get on one knee to pray to our savior than to look up at some gyrating young lady.
I am a Christian and hold no judgment, nor point any fingers. Let us not help the devil by allowing our mayor to teach our children that promiscuous sexual acts are allowable.
