Workshop to be held Monday at UNLV

The Nevada Coalition Against Sexual Violence is sponsoring a workshop Monday by Dr. Lori Girshick, author and head of the Women's Studies Department at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina.

The workshop, "No More Denying: Woman to Woman Sexual Violence," will be 8:30 a.m. until noon in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Student Services Building, Room 254.

City of Las Vegas shows the way

Two city of Las Vegas maps received awards from the Nevada Geographic Information Society in its 12th annual competition.

The winning maps include the city's Planning and Development Department's "federal lands" map, receiving a second place for map production and creativity, and the Information Technologies Department won third place for "City of Las Vegas Council Wards."

This year's competition drew nearly 30 entries from various agencies.

Financial reporting certificate received

The city of North Las Vegas has been awarded its 21st certificate of achievement for financial reporting excellence.

This year's award was earned by Leslie Stirling, accounting manager for the city's comprehensive annual financial report.

The award is presented by the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

UNLV professor's energy work cited

University of Nevada, Las Vegas mechanical engineering professor Robert Boehm received the first Harry Reid Silver State Research Award last week.

Boehm is director of the university's Center for Energy Research. His areas of expertise are alternative energy and fuels, such as solar power and hydrogen fuel.

The UNLV Foundation named the award after Reid because of the senator's longtime commitment to funding education and research projects in Nevada.

UNLV professor cited for contributions

Christopher R. Cochran, assistant professor of Health Care Administration of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has received the American College of Health Executives Distinguished Healthcare Faculty Regents Award.

Rod A. Davis, the college's regent and president of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, presented the award to Cochran for his commitment and contributions in helping health care administration students work toward meeting professional goals. Cochran has served in his position since 1997.

The Distinguished Healthcare Faculty Regent's Award recognizes American College of Health Executives affiliates who are experienced in the field and have made significant contributions toward advancing health care management.
