Las Vegas man suspect in L.A. case

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office is taking a second look at a 1995 sexual assault alleged committed by a Las Vegas man currently facing multiple rape charges here.

"The DAs there are looking to re-charge him for the 1995 case based on evidence we obtained here," Metro Police Detective Todd Hendrix said. "They found the victim in that case and have interviewed her."

Hendrix said that among the 100-plus videos seized from Steven Newberg's home they found a videotape of an alleged 1996 sexual assault in Los Angeles that mirrors what took place in the 1995 Los Angeles case.

Newberg was charged in the 1995 case, but the charges were dismissed when authorities were unable to find the alleged victim at that time, Hendrix said.

The 1996 tape could be used to help prove the earlier case, Hendrix said.

Newberg is currently in the Clark County Detention Center on 36 sex-related charges. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old distant relative and two prostitutes and video-taping the acts.

No tickets left for UNLV lecture

No tickets are left for former President Bill Clinton's speech at the Thomas & Mack Center on Monday.

A total of 6,500 free tickets were distributed for Clinton's talk, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Demand for tickets to the speech, presented as part of the Barbara Greenspun Lecture Series, was very high.

The Greenspun lectures are normally held in the 1,800-seat Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, but organizers expected greater interest in this lecture and had planned to hold it in the 3,100-seat Cox Pavilion.

When the demand for tickets overwhelmed the Cox Pavilion on Monday morning, the lecture was moved to the Thomas & Mack.
