Currently: In his first year for the Red Raiders, Slack, a starting outfielder, is his team's leading hitter with a .376 average through 47 games. The former Green Valley and CCSN standout also leads Texas Tech in on-base percentage (.491) and stolen bases (21) and has drawn a team-high 42 walks. The 31-16 Red Raiders host Oklahoma for a key three-game Big 12 series this weekend.
Looking back: A member of Green Valley's 1998 4A state championship team (the school's sixth straight title squad), Slack batted .463 as a junior and followed that up by hitting .486 with seven homers as a senior in 1999. At CCSN, Slack batted .448 with 20 steals as a freshman and .452 with 32 steals as a senior, earning all-region honors in both of his junior college seasons.
