Savvy wine buys: Guigal ‘98 Cotes du Rhone Rouge
Wednesday, April 24, 2002 | 8:39 a.m.
Some of us remember when this extraordinary wine was under $5 a bottle, but the secret has long been out, and the supply/demand equation has more than doubled the price in recent years. That doesn't mean it isn't a bargain. Guigal makes some of the most exclusive wines in the world, and this village blend of Syrah with a touch of Viognier is a wine made by a master. It's dark, spicy, tannic and redolent of vanilla, the perfect match for game, red meat or cheese. What's more, this is a wine that will live 20 years, and who knows how many times the price will double before then.
Available at Marche Bacchus, $11.99.
