CARSON CITY -- Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Wendell Williams, D-Las Vegas, has paid a $3,800 fine for failing to file his campaign reports on time, but he still faces a district court lawsuit.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Kateri Cavin said today Williams submitted a check for the remaining amount of his fine last Friday. She said he still has not filed an expense campaign report that was due in January 2001.
"We're still going to court," she said.
The attorney general's office sued Williams after he failed March 22 to pay the $3,800 balance on a $6,800 fine for late campaign report filings. The suit filed earlier this month also accuses Williams of a breach of contract.
Williams could not be reached for comment.
Cavin said 19 suits, including the one against Williams, are pending in district court to impose fines and to get the candidates to file their forms.
