Letter: Administration casts aside the will of the people
Monday, April 22, 2002 | 8:50 a.m.
Remember Ronald Reagan's promise when he was running for office, to get the federal government out of the lives of the people. Well, George W. Bush apparently never heard of it, or his attorney general, John Ashcroft, when he was spending $8,000 of our money to cover up the exposed bosom of blindfolded Justice.
We see instead Mr. Ashcroft ignoring the voters in many states, including Nevada, who chose to approve programs to provide medicinal marijuana to very ill patients, lumping them and those who assist them in with the back-alley drug addicts. And how dare the voters of Oregon, who twice voted to allow assisted suicide, violate his conscience? He showed them by ordering his DEA agents there to arrest any doctor who tried to help their patients who wanted to die peacefully, rather than live on in extreme agony with no hope for survival.
Can you imagine someone with Ashcroft's views on the Supreme Court?
