Activities scheduled

The Las Vegas Highland Games & Clan Gathering, featuring Scottish athletic competitions, cultural demonstrations, food and entertainment, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Park at East Washington Boulevard and North Mojave Road. Readings scheduled

The city of Las Vegas' "Poet's Corner" event, for established and amateur poets, will be at 7:30 p.m. today at West Las Vegas Cultural Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. Call 229-4800.

Poet Jarret Keene will appear along with his band, Daphne Major, for a reading and signing of his newest collection, "Monster Fashion," as well as a music performance at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson.

Under the stars

The city of Las Vegas presents a screening of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2" at 7:30 p.m. today at Cimarron Rose Community School's park, 5591 N. Cimarron Road. Admission is free. Call 638-8036.

Earth festival

Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Landwell Co. present "EcoJam 2002," featuring battery recycling, demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, workshops and entertainment, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Park. Admission is free. Call 455-8200.

Park programs

A 3-mile, four-hour wildflower hike to view the foliage of First Creek Canyon will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park on West Charleston Boulevard.

Also at the park, "Spinning & Weaving," a demonstration of clothing production from years past, is noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Entrance fees to the park are $5 per vehicle. Call 875-4141.

Art festivals

The Green Valley Town Center Art Festival, featuring more than 70 artisan booths, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the center at 4500 E. Sunset Road in Henderson. Admission is free. Call 245-6077.

The second annual "La Strada dell' Arte" street-painting festival, featuring chalk-pastel paintings by professional artists and area art students, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. Call 791-4268.

Theater, TV

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host auditions for youngsters in kindergarten through grade 12 for the Missoula Children's Theatre's production of "Red Riding Hood" from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. Call 565-2367.

Rainbow Company will hold auditions for an upcoming production of the musical "The Boyfriend" on Saturday. For information call 229-6553.
