Seminars on tap at Temple Beth Shalom

The Women's League of Temple Beth Shalom will host Education Day Sunday at the temple, 8516 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Three separate seminars for which pre-registration is suggested:

Dr. Jane McCarthy, University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor of education on changing demographics, breaking down barriers to better achieve academic success; Debra Cohen, vice president with First Union Securities, advisor on retirement and estate planning; and Rabbi Felipe Goodman, who will explain life cycle rituals. Bats, story telling set for Saturday

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the Visitors Center. To make reservations or for information call 363-1922. Some upcoming programs:

The kids can enjoy "Story Telling in the Canyon," with Vicki at the Willow Springs Picnic Area for American Indian Folklore 10 a.m.-noon. RSVP.

Information breakfast scheduled Tuesday

Las Vegas Sun Editor Brian Greenspun will give the keynote speech at the U.S. Savings Bond breakfast 8 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Station in Henderson. The breakfast is hosted by Silver State Bank.

The breakfast will address various ways to offer savings bonds as a payroll deduction option to employees. Special presentations will be made to Tod Little, the 2001 Las Vegas Bonds campaign chairman, and Robert Gurrola, the Los Angeles district director of the U.S. Treasury Department.

The 13th annual Doctors vs. Lawyers

charity softball game to benefit University Medical Center's Children's Miracle Network will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Cashman Field, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Tickets are $7. Call 383-2326.

The Ballroom Dance Team

and Rebel Dance Sport Club of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas present their Welcome Dance 7-10 p.m. today and Desert Challenge Dance Sport Championships 9-10 a.m. Saturday, both at the campus' McDermott Physical Building. Admission for the dance is $7; $5 for students. Admission for the dance championships is $10; $8 for students.

A women's forum

The Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary

Post 21 will host a fashion show at 11:30 a.m. Sunday presented by Mr. Cooper's Boutique and the Men's Wearhouse at the Suncoast, followed by an Americanism Award Luncheon at 1 p.m. in honor of Sen. Harry Reid and his wife, Landra. Special guest will be comedian Rita Rudner.
