Vegas golf courses settle federal access complaint

Wednesday, April 17, 2002 | 11:15 a.m.

The community association at the Sun City Summerlin community in Las Vegas has agreed to adopt a new policy that will give disabled golfers golf cart access to three Sun City Summerlin golf courses.

The Department of Justice said Tuesday that the Sun City Summerlin Community Association Inc. has agreed to a policy that will enable the disabled to use power carts on paths, walkways and around greens on Sun City's Highland Falls, Palm Valley and Eagle Crest golf courses.

Under the agreement, the association will draft a written policy that modifies golf cart restrictions to allow access for the disabled.

Representatives of the golf courses and the association could not be reached for comment today on when the new policy would take effect and how it would be implemented. Golf carts had previously been banned from the courses because of damage they caused to the grounds.
