Savvy wine buys: Luna ‘00 Pinot Grigio

Wednesday, April 17, 2002 | 8:19 a.m.

Celebrity winemaker John Konsgaard, who makes Chardonnay that retails for more than $100 per bottle, has collaborated with Michael Moon to produce this straw-colored, dry white wine. Pinot Grigio is the main varietal in Northeastern Italy, and the men are having a great success of it here. This is an estate-grown wine, which means that the grapes are grown exclusively in the dense clay soil on Luna's 44-acre estate. Some of the grapes are cluster pressed, so the skins can add aromatic flavors to the juice. The wine is racked in French oak, giving it a nice, long finish.

Available at Lee's Discount Liquors, $17.99.
