Counties removing inactive voters

CARSON CITY -- Republicans outnumbered Democrats in Nevada's active voter registration count at the end of March, Secretary of State Dean Heller said Tuesday.

Active voter registration fell to a low of 840,295, down from 852,158 in 2000.

Heller said counties this year have been going through the process of inactivating voters as required by federal law. There are 168,103 inactive voters on the rolls who did not cast ballots in the last election.

There are 347,014 Democrats at the end of March; 353,926 Republicans; 115,844 non-partisans; 14,691 Independent American and the rest scattered among the minor parties.

Only four of the 17 counties -- Clark, Lincoln, Mineral and White Pine -- have Democrats in the majority. The breakdown in Clark County is 235,118 Democrats, 203,222 Republicans, 73,303 non-partisans and 8,904 Independent American.

Clark County has 525,334 active registered voters or 63 percent of the state's total.

In Congressional District 1, where Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev. is the incumbent, there are 220,183 registered voters, including 108,395 Democrats, 75,623 Republicans, 30,116 non-partisans and 3,790 Independent American.

Heller said there are 292,127 registered voters in Congressional District 3, the new Clark County district created by the Legislature. There are 121,276 Democrats, 122,554 Republicans, 41,071 non-partisans and 4,815 Independent American.

In Congressional District 2, where Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev. is the incumbent, that are 327,876 voters. Republicans outnumber Democrats 155,691 to 117,314 with 44,640 non-partisans and 6,084 Independent American.

Eleven of the 21 state Senate districts have Republican majorities.

In the Assembly, there are 27 districts with a Democratic voter majority and 15 where Republicans have the edge.
