The cost of opening the Nevada State College at Henderson went up Tuesday by $465,000 for the city of Henderson.
The money approved by the Henderson City Council will bring new utilities into a former manufacturing plant and help keep pigeons out.
About 100 public works employees are transferring to the plant so the city can donate a former vitamin factory to the state university system for the state college's expected September opening.
The funds -- which were "not originally anticipated," according to the construction management division -- included $21,000 for water and sewer connection fees, $90,000 for a telephone line trench, $40,000 to replace the roof and $15,000 for carpeting.
In the past several months, the city approved improvements to both buildings totalling close to $1.1 million. Those city expenses were also approved in order to help open the state college.
