Sex case sent to prosecutors

Henderson Police this morning submitted a case to prosecutors against a Catholic priest accused of molesting six teenage boys.

Prosecutors will review the case and determine what, if any, charges will be filed. Police submitted a case asking for several felony charges, including child abuse, coercion, use of a child in the production of pornography and open and gross lewdness with a child.

The Rev. Mark Roberts is accused of sexually assaulting the boys at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Henderson. The families of the boys filed a civil lawsuit against the priest and the diocese in March.

Officials of the Diocese of Las Vegas say they contacted police as soon as they learned of the allegations. The diocese sent him to an undisclosed treatment facility.

30-year-old victim identified

A man killed earlier this month at a bus stop on Las Vegas Boulevard South has been identified as 30-year-old David Lee Scott of Las Vegas.

Police said Scott was killed about 5 a.m. April 5 after getting into an argument with three men at the bus stop at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.

Argument ends in man's death

A man was found shot to death near his car after getting into an argument with two other men Monday night.

Witnesses told police the man had been arguing with two other men at Hazelnut Lane and Redberry Street, near Cheyenne Avenue and Rancho Drive, about 10 p.m. Monday. The two apparently beat the man before the victim was shot, police said. The pair fled in a black hatchback, police said.

Fourth suspect pleads guilty

Joseph A. Lebron, 26, of San Diego is the fourth person to plead guilty in an attempt to bilk an insurance company out of $40,000 with a false report of a stolen vehicle.

District Judge John McGroarty on Monday ordered Lebron to reimburse the attorney general's office $1,000 for costs of its investigation and extradition.

Anthony Gonzalez, 26 and Kendall Thacker, 21, both of Las Vegas, have already been sentenced and each paid $1,000 to cover investigative costs.

A young man found shot to death

in North Las Vegas over the weekend was identified as 16-year-old Bradley Shelby. Anyone with information in this case is asked to call North Las Vegas Police at 633-9111 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

A two-alarm fire

fanned the by the high winds destroyed three homes under construction at Thurman Avenue and Topaz Street about 10 p.m. Monday. No one was injured.
