State Sen. Jon Porter reported slightly more than $700,000 cash on hand in campaign finance reports filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission.
Porter, a Republican, has raised a little more than $988,000 overall in his race for the state's new 3rd Congressional District seat against Clark County Commission Chairman Dario Herrera, a Democrat.
Herrera, who has raised more than $1 million in the campaign, reported slightly more than $678,000 cash on hand, but the report only covers the first three months of the year. Herrera was in Washington, D.C., earlier this month at a fund-raiser where he was expected to net close to $50,000.
The new seat has attracted donors on both sides, having been targeted nationally because both parties see the potential to win.
In the 1st Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., had slightly more than $838,000 on hand after raising $1.2 million in the campaign cycle -- three times what her challenger has raised.
Las Vegas Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald, a Republican, reported having $156,000 on hand at the end of March. Boggs McDonald has raised a little more than $414,000 for the election cycle.
