Internet love affair ends with arrest

Tuesday, April 16, 2002 | 9:17 a.m.

A 44-year-old Florida man is being held without bail in Las Vegas after allegedly conducting sexually charged e-mail conversations with an FBI agent posing as a 14-year-old girl and arranging to meet the girl at a local bowling alley.

James Allen "Jamey" Jahner Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., was determined to be a flight risk by U.S. Magistrate Robert Johnston on Monday after Johnston heard testimony that included allegations that Jahner had sent the agent lewd pictures of himself.

Jahner, who is charged with interstate travel with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a juvenile, was arrested Friday at the Suncoast hotel, where he had planned to meet the 14-year-old, investigators said.

Since January, Jahner conducted more than 15 sexual conversations with an FBI agent posing as a girl named Erica in a Yahoo chat room titled "I Love Older Men3," according to a federal complaint.

During the course of the initial conversation, the FBI agent sent Jahner pictures of a Metro Police officer at age 14. In about half the subsequent chats, Jahner allegedly sent lewd video clips of himself to the agent.

According to the complaint, Jahner posted under the name "hawkeyefl2000," and intimated that he wanted to have sex with "Erica."

During an exchange on Jan. 30, Jahner allegedly expressed his understanding of the legal consequences of having sex with a juvenile.

Jahner is scheduled to next appear in court on April 29.
